Resident – Class of 2022

Meet Dr. Johnson

Where did you grow up?
DeLuth, MN, near the tip of Lake Superior.
Where did you go to medical school?
University of Minnesota, Home of the Golden Gophers!
What inspired you to be an OBGYN?
I put my OBGYN rotation during medical school very early on into my third year thinking I just “needed to get through it.” As the rotation progressed, I became more and more excited to show up the next day. I loved the variety OBGYN offered in terms of spending time in clinic, the OR, and on L&D. I was also inspired as I watched my attendings provide women with the care they had often waited far too long to receive due to the unfortunate barriers that exist within women’s healthcare.
Why did you choose UNC ?
I will never forget my interview day and meeting the upcoming chief class. I left my interview thinking how excited I would be to have the rising fourth years as my chiefs. I was excited about the prospect of not only working with and learning from them, but also becoming their friends. That proved true not only with the chief class, but also with the residency as a whole. Year after year, I could not ask for more caring, more intellingent, and more fun co-residents to work with.
What you are most excited about during residency?
I can’t wait to see what myself and my co-residents end up doing at the end of residency! The beauty of our program is that the breadth of experience we get as residents and the immense amount of growth we have as physicians as a result of our training enables us to be strong candidates as we apply for jobs or fellowship. It is always so fun and impressive to see where our next life journey takes us!
