Meet Dr. Flyke
Where did you grow up?
I grew up just outside of Milwaukee, WI. I lived there for about 12 years before my family moved to Charlotte, NC!
Where did you go to medical school?
University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health
What inspired you to be an OBGYN?
I was drawn to the immense variety of healthcare we get to provide. From obstetrical, surgical and even primary care, we have the opportunity to care for patients across their lifetime during some of both their most joyous moments and their most challenging. I wanted to be in a specialty that I knew would challenge and inspire me, and OB/GYN does that each and every day.
Why did you choose UNC ?
Choosing UNC was almost too easy. From the minute I arrived at our pre-interview dinner, it was obvious that this was a program where the residents genuinely cared for each other. They would go on to describe the residency program as family, and I couldn’t agree more. I could see throughout my interview, and can confirm now, that this program fosters an environment where learning is paramount, where questions are encouraged and where every member of the team is valued and respected. I knew that if I had the opportunity to come to UNC I would be receive training that is second to none, all while being tremendously supported throughout my time here. Oh, and Chapel Hill is pretty awesome too!
What you are most excited about during residency?
I am most excited to really begin my training as an OB/GYN. At UNC we are able to get involved early in the OR, and I am very much looking forward to developing my surgical skills throughout intern year. I am also looking forward to having my own patients through our resident clinic! And of course, I cannot wait to work alongside my wonderful co-residents every day!
