Class of 2021, Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship, University of Utah

Meet Dr. Givens

Where did you grow up?
Columbus, Ohio
Where did you go to medical school?
UNC 🙂
What inspired you to be an OBGYN?
During my 3rd year medical school OBGYN rotation, I was totally blown away by all that OBGYN has to offer. Being able to work with patient’s during their pregnancy, which can be a life changing time of joy and happiness but can also be full of medical, emotional, and social complexity, is such a privilege. It is also so special to be able to provide medical care that balances the wellbeing of two (or more!) patients.
Why did you choose UNC ?
As a UNC Medical Student, I came to know and love the department and couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. UNC is a really special place where people want to be friends before being collaborators. Everyone you meet goes out of their way to help you succeed and meet the goals for training that you want to meet. I love that you can grab a coffee with the editor-in-chief of the Green Journal before your ultrasound shift together or go out to the division director’s house for a swim and dinner after a difficult day on L&D.
What you are most excited about during residency?
Learning, teaching, and growing in a supportive enviroment with 27 of the greastest co-residents and a family of amazing faculty, staff, and patients.
