Mission and VisionOur Mission: The mission of the UNC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is to improve the lives and health of North Carolinians and others whom we serve. We provide quality, patient-centered health care services; educate health care providers and investigators to be the leaders of tomorrow; and conduct research to advance knowledge in our field. We are guided by a commitment to health care justice and equity for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, socioeconomic status, or gender identity.

Our Values in ActionOur department is committed to developing creative solutions to the systemic inequities that are part of our health care system, educational system, and workplace. We are committed to ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion guide all of our decisions. We do this through the work of our departmental Diversity Task Force and in partnership with the School of Medicine Office of Inclusive Excellence. Together we strategize to develop evidence-based and outcomes-oriented plans to make our learning environment, workplace, and patient care respectful and just.
Our departmental Diversity Task Force was formed in 2017. We are a cross-section of our department, comprised of staff, residents, fellows, and faculty who are committed to actively ensuring that we develop and maintain a just and equitable work, learning, and care environment. Our task force meets monthly to carry out these efforts. Some of our recent and ongoing activities include book clubs/discussions groups, a departmental climate survey, and a patient pledge to communicate our support to our marginalized patients.
