Recruitment
Carolina First Look
Carolina First Look is an annual opportunity for medical students who are preparing for the residency application process to visit the UNC School of Medicine & Health Care System to learn more about available specialty medical programs for residents. The event, which is coordinated by the Office of Inclusive Excellence, is an important part of our annual recruiting process. Our involvement includes obstetric and surgical simulations; mock interviews; and large group and one-on-one time with our residents, fellows, and faculty so potential applicants can get a sense of why we all chose Carolina.
Carolina Second Look
Carolina Second Look is an opportunity for medical students who have interviewed for residency at UNC to return to Chapel Hill as they prepare for the residency selection process. Also coordinated by the Office of Inclusive Excellence, Carolina Second Look gives us a chance to share our time and space with applicants beyond the interview day. We coordinate clinical shadowing, pair interested applicants with potential research mentors, and enjoy the good food of Franklin Street.
Larry D. Keith Visiting Student Elective
Visiting student electives can be an invaluable experience. The Larry D. Keith Visiting Student Electives Scholarship serves to supplement the cost of this training opportunity for medical students and those committed to serving in underserved communities.
All scholarship recipients will complete a 4-week rotation in a chosen elective, meet with the respective program directors, and have informal as well as formal opportunities to meet with faculty and resident mentors at the UNC SOM.
