Dr. John Chan
Palo Alto Medical Foundation
Dr. John K. Chan is the Regional Cancer Center Director of Gynecologic Oncology at the California Pacific-Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute. He also serves as the Principal Investigator Lead of Sutter Cancer Research Consortium. He holds the Denise & Prentis Cobb Hale Endowed Chair at the California Pacific Medical Center. He is an adjunct clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, Stanford University and Dartmouth School of Medicine.
His research focuses on developing new therapies for gynecologic cancers, including targeted biologic therapies, as well as investigating the role of immunotherapy in ovarian cancer. He served as the principal investigator of a prospective randomized trial in the upfront treatment of advanced ovarian cancer sponsored by the Gynecologic Oncology Group and National Cancer Institute. He also conducts outcomes-based and cost-effective studies evaluating the treatment of ovarian and uterine cancer. He has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Institute of Aging to study cancer prevention and risk reduction.
Dr. Chan is currently serving on the Ovarian Committee of the Gynecologic Oncology Group and is the study chair of three Gynecologic Oncology Group protocols. He has received numerous grants and awards, including those from the National Cancer Institute, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, Gynecologic Cancer Foundation and the Gynecologic Oncology Group.
Dr. Chan has authored and co-authored over 120 manuscripts in journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association JAMA Oncol. Journal of Clinical Oncology, Lancet Oncology, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Journal of Immunotherapy Cancer, Gynecologic Oncology, Cancer, Obstetrics & Gynecology, British Journal of Cancer, and American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and The Oncologist. He is also the co-author of three textbooks in the field of Gynecologic Oncology. He is consistently selected as the Best doctor in America and Best Doctors as recognized by the U.S. News and World Report.
