The magazine considers a variety of categories such as patient safety and advanced technologies in developing the rankings.

U.S. News and World Report has ranked UNC Hospitals No. 25 in the nation for gynecology, according to the magazine’s 2015-16 “America’s Best Hospitals” issue.

To determine the rankings for each specialty, the magazine scores reputation with specialists, patient survival, patient safety, patient volume, nursing intensity (relative balance of nurses to patients across hospital), Nurse Magnet recognition, advanced technologies, patience services and the presence of an intensivist on staff.

UNC Hospitals’ score for gynecology for the 2015-16 year is 75.2/100. This is the highest ranking for the specialty at UNC Hospitals since 2009 (No. 24.)

Only 137 hospitals were nationally ranked (top 50) in a specialty. Four other specialties at UNC Hospitals ranked nationally: cancer (No. 32); ears, nose and throat (No. 18); pulmonology (No. 34); and urology (No. 49). Rex Hospital and Pardee Hospital were also included in the 2015-16 rankings.
