In spring of 2017, UNC Horizons\u2019 dream of a state-of-the-art facility for gender-specific trauma-informed treatment became a reality.<\/p>\nIn spring of 2017, UNC Horizons\u2019 dream of a state-of-the-art facility for gender-specific trauma-informed treatment became a reality.<\/p>\n
Shelton Station is located at 410 North Greensboro St. in Carrboro, on multiple bus lines for our women, children and trainees and walking distance from grocery stores, restaurants, schools, walking\/biking trails and other services.<\/p>\n
Shelton Station completed construction in early 2017, making room for our 5-star Early Head Start Child Development Center, meeting and treatment rooms, prenatal clinics, maternal and child therapy space with observation rooms and more.<\/p>\n By providing medical care, counseling and group therapy and childcare all under one roof, Horizons can make recovery more accessible to women and their children.<\/p>\n This beautiful new space is one that we believe our women deserve and need to heal and thrive. Women and children who are living under the dire circumstances produced by alcohol or substance use disorders will have the opportunity to start down the path of recovery and healing.<\/p>\n In January 2017, Horizons dedicated the clinic space to three physicians from Greenville, N.C.: Dr. James Edwin \u2018Ed\u2019 Clement, Dr. Robert G. \u2018Bob\u2019 Deyton and Dr. Edgar S. \u2018Dick\u2019 Douglas.<\/p>\n Dr. John Thorp, Horizons medical director, first met the honorees as a medical student at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and honored them as pioneers of delivering critical care to women in need in North Carolina. Folt and UNC School of Medicine Executive Dean Welsey Burks helped UNC Horizons celebrate Shelton Station\u2019s Grand Opening on April 19, 2017.
