Fan Lee, MD, Global Health Scholar, 2017-19

As an OBGYN resident at UNC, the Global Health Scholars Program gave me the opportunity to continue clinical and research training through UNC-Project Malawi under my mentors Dr. Jennifer Tang and Dr. Lameck Chinula in the area of cervical cancer screening and prevention. With the support of Global Health Scholar Program, I was able to spend 8 weeks between 2017-2019 in Lilongwe over the course of a busy residency and present my research at Federation of International Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) conference in Rio De Janeiro in October 2019. Now, with the new understanding and perspective as a physician and surgeon specialized in the care of women, I am planning to return to Malawi under UNC’s Global Women’s Health Fellowship in 2020 to further my research training and continue my work with women in low-resource communities.
