UNC OB-GYN added two new faculty to its division in late September and early October.

Amanda O’Briant, CNM, WHNP, joined UNC Midwives on Sept. 30, 2016. She comes to UNC OB-GYN most recently from the Women’s Health Alliance in Durham. She has 12 years experience as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, and she became a Certified Nurse Midwife in May 2016.
O’Briant earned her first bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from UNC–Chapel Hill in 1997. She completed a Master of Science in Nursing, Women’s Health, from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004. She completed a post-master’s certificate at East Carolina University in Nurse Midwifery in May 2016.
O’Briant lives in Durham with her spouse and three children. Aside from working with women to achieve their health goals across their lives, O’Briant enjoys distance running, gardening, and cooking with her family.
“Being a women’s health care provider has been a great privilege and a great joy to me. It’s wonderful to be able to say my work is truly something that makes me happy. Coming to UNC as a Certified Nurse Midwife has been a lifelong dream,” said O’Briant. “It’s a unique environment that embraces the midwifery model of care, backed by strong evidence. We are able to serve women across their lifespan with an approach that is very current, personal, sensitive, and minimizes unnecessary interventions. We have an amazing team.”
Jodi Tolley, WHNP, joined the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at UNC OB-GYN as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner on October 4. She graduated from Radford University in 1990 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and from Virginia Commonwealth University with her Master of Science in Nursing, Women’s Health, in 2003. She practiced as a registered nurse in Labor and Delivery for 11 years before pursuing her graduate degree.
She has been practicing as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner for 13 years in both Virginia and North Carolina. She has worked at Virginia Commonwealth University, Rex and WakeMed, and for the past four years in private practice in Raleigh and Apex.
She considers it a great honor to be on staff in the OB-GYN Department at UNC because of the collaborative and collegial academic learning environment and the excellent national and international reputation of the department and the University.
Tolley and her husband Mark have been married for 26 years and they have three sons: Matthew, 24 years old, Jonathan, 23 years old, and Patrick, 20 years old.
