Woods Junior Faculty Award<\/a> from the UNC School of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>The award recognizes promising young members of the medical school&#8217;s faculty early in their academic career. With this honor comes a stipend of $3,000 to be used at the winner&#8217;s discretion for support of research or scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is an important achievement and demonstrates with high respect with which you are held by your colleagues,&#8221; states the award letter. &#8220;It places you among the previous outstanding recipients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Knittel is the department&#8217;s Program Director for Incarcerated Women\u2019s Health, and her research and clinical work have a special focus on reproductive transitions for women involved in the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Andrea Knittel, MD, PhD, assistant professor in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, is the winner of the 2019-20 James W.
