{"id":5069,"date":"2024-05-03T15:31:40","date_gmt":"2024-05-03T15:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/obgyn\/?p=5069"},"modified":"2024-05-03T15:31:40","modified_gmt":"2024-05-03T15:31:40","slug":"dr-young-receives-professional-development-award-from-the-national-endowment-for-the-humanities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/obgyn\/2024\/05\/03\/dr-young-receives-professional-development-award-from-the-national-endowment-for-the-humanities\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Young receives Professional Development Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Omar Young, MD, FACOG from UNC Health&#8217;s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has received the Professional Development Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities Institute for Health Professions Education.\u00a0The program, Health Humanities: Dismantling Structural Injustice in Healthcare, advocates for integrating the humanities in health professions education.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This virtual longitudinal institute will empower health professions and faculty to leverage the health humanities in their educational and scholarly practice,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/obgyn\/people\/omar-young\/\">Dr. Young<\/a>. &#8220;While creating a unique community of practice at the forefront of a cutting-edge movement to meaningfully integrate humanities in health professions education.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neh.gov\/about\">National Endowment for the Humanities<\/a> is one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States. The NEH awards grants for &#8220;top-rated proposals examined by panels of independent, external reviewers,&#8221; according to the site.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This program will allow for an introduction to the health humanities, structural competency, history and theories of racism in healthcare, and health humanities-based approaches to addressing injustice.
