It’s about COMMUNITY…<\/i><\/h2>\n

BioSTAR hosts monthly socials (free food) for our graduate student community. Past socials have included sushi, cupcake trees, fondue fountains, wine and cheese, BBQ, and more! These socials are a great opportunity to take a break from research and mingle with fellow grad students. And did we mention there was free food?<\/p>\n

In addition to serving our UNC research community, we oversee several programs that provide students with opportunities to serve the greater community. We encourage all students to get involved with Science Outreach<\/a> and share their passion for science and research with the citizens of North Carolina (and beyond)!<\/p>\n

It’s about BELONGING…<\/i><\/h2>\n

An ideal learning environment contains a multitude of perspectives, ideas, and backgrounds. BioSTAR coordinates many programs<\/a> for scientists at different stages to gain the experience and skills they’ll need to build their careers. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels that they belong and that they can contribute to science and education. Though we are a large community, we create many opportunities for trainees to build connections with their peers and foster a network of mentors.
