Course Title: Advance Practice Selective-Medicine Malawi

Course description: Takes place in Malawi
Learning Objectives- 1. Increased understanding of issues involved in caring for patients from a different culture and language/ cultural barriers. 2. Improved expertise in diagnostic capabilities appropriate for low resource situation. 3. Increased understanding of public health and economic situations impacting health and health seeking behaviors in rural, impoverished geographic area.
Learning Activities- Conferences, rounds, history/patient interview, physical exam, clinic, didactic sessions, interpretation of lab results, observe procedures, perform procedures with supervision
Evaluation: Interview patients/ take history, physical exam, participate in rounds, participate in conferences, observed administering procedures, develop differential diagnosis, develop treatment plan, presentation/patient presentation, patient write-ups, interpretation of labs/test results. Evaluation will be by the site preceptor.
Requirements: Need to meet with Professor Hoffman prior to approval for course. Availability may be limited by lodging at the site.
