UPDATE – August 15, 2021

Consistent with UNC System guidance (, medical students and residents/fellows under GME are prohibited from UNC-affiliated global travel without an exemption. Exemptions are only being supported for COVID or other critical research at this time (not for clinical or community-based electives). This is based on both risks to travelers and the potential additional burden of students and residents at global sites. OGHE fully intends to supporting to global opportunities as soon as it is safe to do so. With current projections due to delta variant of the COVID virus, we expect these restrictions to be in place through the end of 2021 and will update when further information is available.
