Biography:

Mary Crocker, MD, MPH, is a third year fellow in Pediatric Pulmonology. As a part of the Global Health Scholars program, Crocker developed a project in Managua, Nicaragua that is designed to train community health workers to identify and refer children with asthma. Crocker’s interest in global health began as an undergraduate at Florida State University, where she volunteered with health workers in rural Jamaican communities. Since then she has traveled to Nicaragua multiple times for medical missions and public health projects. In addition to her MD, Crocker has also earned a Master’s in Public Health with a focus on public health planning and evaluation from UNC’s Gillings School of Public Health. Dr. Crocker has had a long-standing interest in implementing evidence-based medicine at the community level, and partnering with communities to address public health issues. Locally, she is working with the Orange County Health Department to evaluate an asthma home visit program that aims to address environmental triggers for children with asthma.
