Shay Slifko is the Program Manager for the UNC School of Medicine’s Office of International Activities. She brings a unique professional background to this role working in the context of international education with a specific focus in global health program leadership. She has experience collaborating with universities and international partners focusing on preparing learners to engage in international settings. Formerly, Shay served as a board member for an HIV prevention advocacy organization, an Assistant Director of international enrollment, and she was an an adjunct faculty member teaching English as a Foreign Language.
In addition to her work in international education, Shay has conducted grant research on a WaSH implementation-project in Cambodia collaborating with a non-profit organization, Caring for Cambodia and most recently, Shay collaborated with Heart to Heart International developing a program evaluation for the UNICEF-sponsored community health worker (CHW) training programs in Haiti. Her background has equipped her in collaborating in the field of international partnerships and supporting global health program management. She enjoys working with learners shaping equitable and culturally-appropriate approaches in global health education. Shay earned a master of arts in Comparative and International Education from Lehigh University and, in May 2018, earned a professional Certificate in Public Health Leadership at the University of North Carolina Gilling’s School of Global Public Health.
