Course description:

Takes place in Guanajuato, Mexico. During the year preparing for the onsite part of the course students will learn about research design, the Institutional Board Review (IRB) process, grant writing and program planning. While on site in Mexico students will learn about local Mexican culture, health care delivery systems and develop Spanish language proficiency. In the post-trip period students will analyze data from the health fairs performed during the rotation and at a minimum present a poster at the Winter NC Family Practice Meeting in Asheville.

Learning Activities: History/Patient interview, Literature review, Research, Perform Health fairs in rural Mexico

Evaluation: Direct observation in all activities

Requirements: Spanish language proficiency. Special permission from course director required.
