During Mozambique’s unforgiving dry season, the limited water available is unpotable and risks spreading disease. It also dominates the daily lives of women and girls charged with collecting and delivering it to their families.

Several weekly trips to the river regularly pull girls out of school to make lengthy journeys to collect water. For the elderly or injured, difficulties are multiplied, and fierce competition for limited supplies creates conflict within communities.

14.8 million in Mozambique are without clean water; over 21 million lack access to a safe bathroom. Disease outbreaks kill 7 of every 100 children before age 5.
