Biography:

Tom Blount is a current second year pediatrics resident and aspiring pediatric cardiologist with an interest in pediatric global health. He majored in Spanish at Washington University in St. Louis and had the opportunity to study abroad in Quito, Ecuador as an undergraduate. His passion for pediatric global health was ignited during a month-long medical rotation in Cape Town, South Africa as a medical student at the University of Nebraska, and he has recently had the opportunity to travel to Leon, Nicaragua as a part of two medical missions in September 2017 and February 2018. These trips to Leon were sponsored in part by Project Health for Leon, a non-profit organization that organizes twice-yearly cardiology brigades to Nicaragua. During this most recent trip, the group was able to perform six interventional cardiology interventions for adults with congenital heart disease for the first time in Leon.
