Configuring Outlook

Outlook is the University’s recommended email client that offers full support for Exchange Features. The University offers full support for this email client, which will be able to Send/Receive, Recall emails, and share folders among employees. The employee will also be able to access their Personal and Resource Calendars.

Outlook 2016 Setup

  • Open Outlook 2016
  • Note: If your computer is on the AD domain and you have already signed in, when you open Outlook, your account should be automatically configured. Click on Next. Then choose Yes and click Next. Skip down to step 3.

Outlook 2016 Add an Email Account

  • If your computer is not on the domain and this is your first time opening the program, you will initially see a screen that prompts you to create a new email account. If you have already used and configured Outlook on this computer in the past, start by clicking the File tab and then choose Info. Click on Add Account.

Outlook 2016 Add an Email Account - Off Domain

  • When the Add New Account box opens, you will be prompted to enter your account information including
    • Your Name  -  First Name Last Name
      • For E-mail Address, enter onyen@ad.unc.edu
        • ONYEN Password
          • Retype ONYEN Password

        Outlook 2016 Auto Account Setup

        • Your account will now authenticate and finish configuring.
          • Please note that your account may take 2 – 3 minutes to complete authentication if you are on the UNC network. If you are outside the network, authentication may take 5 – 10 minutes. You may want to try connecting through VPN while off campus.
        • After the configuration process completes, click Finish.

        Outlook 2016 Congratulations Complete

        • You will now be prompted to restart Outlook. Click Ok.

        Outlook 2013 Setup

        • Open Outlook 2013
        • Note: If your computer is on the AD domain and you have already signed in, when you open Outlook, your account should be automatically configured. Click on Next. Then choose Yes and click Next. Skip down to step 3.
