Our group uses the tools of molecular biology to study HIV pathogenesis and latency. We have specific interests in how the virus evolves to infect a new cell type, usually in the brain, to cause a distinct form of pathogenesis. Our interests include the evolution of drug resistance to protease inhibitors, and the steps of assembly\/virion maturation and RNA expression\/splicing in viral replication. We also have a special interest in determining when replicating virus enters the latent reservoir.
