The Office of Research reports to Dr. Blossom Damania, the Vice Dean for Research in the UNC SOM. The office oversees the infrastructure, communication and development necessary for a strong and growing research enterprise. Collaboration is one of the great strengths of UNC-Chapel Hill&#8217;s research enterprise and the SOM investigators, and the OoR works closely with many different units and offices throughout the institution to increase interdisciplinary science and maximize the resources available to our researchers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"section-som\"><span>What does the SOM Office of Research Do?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/580\/2018\/02\/OoRDiagram.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-right alignright\" style=\"float: right\" title=\"OoR diagram\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/580\/2018\/02\/OoRDiagram.jpg\" alt=\"OoR diagram\" width=\"464\" height=\"322\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Works on implementation of the <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"SOM Strategic Plan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/strategicplan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SOM Strategic Plan <\/a>includes promoting team science, supporting departmental equipment infrastructure, supporting core facilities, expanding computational\/informatics infrastructure and access, and working with regional partners.<\/li>\n<li>Provides strategic investments for TTSA\/ECBR Pilot Awards, Shared Equipment Grant costshares, Startup packages, Retention packages, and Bridge funding. See our <a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/research\/funding-2\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Funding Resources <\/a>for further information<\/li>\n<li>Supports development of grant proposals (especially training and instrumentation grants) and interdisciplinary programs in a variety of ways.<\/li>\n<li>Conducts the SOM review for some limited awards. Check the <a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/awards\/calendar-of-award-deadlines\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calendar of Award Deadlines<\/a> for more information on deadlines and administrative contacts.<\/li>\n<li>Promote faculty recognition for <a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/awards\/som-faculty-recognition\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">awards and honors<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Enhances administrative support for <a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/research\/core-facilities\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Core Facilities<\/a> and works on enabling access to cutting edge technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Works with the <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/med.unc.edu\/planning\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SOM Planning Office<\/a> and SOM administrative units to efficiently maximize SOM space allocation.<\/li>\n<li>Works closely with the <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oge\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of Biomedical Science Training and Research (BioSTAR)<\/a> to enhance the training of next generation researchers.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinates support for <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/research.unc.edu\/coi\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Conflict of Interest<\/a> management in the SOM.<\/li>\n<li>Responds to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/school-of-medicine-compliance-and-research-integrity-office\/\">allegations of Research Misconduct and supports Research
