Dr. Bonnie Sklar is a cornea specialist and cataract surgeon at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Sklar graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Neuroscience and earned her MD from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Subsequently, she moved to North Carolina to complete her sub-specialty training in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at Duke Eye Center in Durham, NC.

Dr. Sklar specializes in medical and surgical management of corneal disease and cataracts. She performs cornea transplant surgery, cataract surgery with advanced technology lenses, complex anterior segment surgery including intraocular lens exchange, and refractive surgery. Dr. Sklar is committed to helping each patient understand their eye conditions and will work closely with you to determine a personalized treatment plan.

Dr. Sklar has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, and she has presented her research at national ophthalmology conferences. For her commitment to teaching and mentoring medical students, she received the Golden Apple Award during her fellowship  training at Duke. Dr. Sklar’s passion for global ophthalmology has included humanitarian work in Sierra Leone, Mongolia, and Kenya. Outside of work, Dr. Sklar enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her family.
