Kittner Eye Center

The Kittner Eye Center is located just off Interstate 40 (exit 273) in the Carolina Crossing building. It is near the corner of NC 54 and Farrington Road, about five miles east of NC Memorial Hospital. There is free parking in front of and behind the Kittner Eye Center. U N C Kittner Eye Center

The Kittner Eye Center is named for David Kittner, a native of North Carolina who was a proud alumnus and long-time donor to the University of North Carolina.

Mr. Kittner earned a business degree from the University of North Carolina in 1939, served his country in the United States Army, and then earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1951. Throughout his distinguished legal career in Philadelphia, his alma mater remained an important point of pride.

In 1988 he established a scholarship at UNC in memory of his parents. Twenty years later, he endowed a fund to create the Kittner Eye Center at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina. He provided additional funds to establish a distinguished professorship in Ophthalmology at UNC.

David’s spirit and legacy lives on through his family and the Kittner Eye Center.

Each year more than 45,000 patients choose Kittner Eye Center for routine eye examinations as well as specialty eye care services. The Kittner Eye Center is staffed by highly trained ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, clinical technicians and other support personnel representing all sub-specialties of ophthalmology. The Kittner Eye Center is dedicated to the comfort, convenience and well-being of each patient, and to provide the very best in state-of-the-art eye care.

Coming from the West on Interstate 40 (I-40)

  • Drive east on Interstate 40 and take exit 273 for U.S. Highway 54 West.
  • Turn right onto Highway 54 West.
  • Turn right onto Huntingridge Rd at the stop light.
  • Take an immediate right onto Nelson Highway.
  • The Kittner Eye Center is two blocks up on the left.

Coming from the East on I-40

  • Drive west on Interstate 40 and take exit 273A for U.S. Highway 54 West.
  • Turn right onto Huntingridge Rd at the stop light.
  • Take an immediate right onto Nelson Highway.
  • The Kittner Eye Center is two blocks up on the left.

Coming from the South direction on 15-501

  • Drive north on U.S. Highway 15-501.
  • Bear right on to NC Highway 54 east/15-501 north (towards Durham).
  • Take the exit for NC Highway 54 East (also known as Raleigh Road).
  • Before reaching Interstate 40 and Farrington Rd, turn left on Huntingridge Rd at the stop light.
  • Take immediate right onto Nelson Highway.
  • The Kittner Eye Center is two blocks up on the left.
