Here are the top 10 tips to preserve your vision, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology

Per the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO):

More than 20 million Americans suffer from severe vision loss. While not all eye diseases can be prevented, there are simple steps that everyone can take to help their eyes remain healthy now and reduce their chances of vision loss in the future.

As the weather warms up and many of us are getting more active, the risk of eye injuries increases. The AAO shared these top ten tips to safeguard your vision:

  1. Wear sunglasses
  2. Don’t Smoke
  3. Eat a healthy diet
  4. Have a baseline eye exam by age 40
  5. Wear eye protection when playing sports or doing home repair jobs
  6. Know your family history
  7. Early intervention
  8. Know your eye care provider
  9. Contact lens care
  10. Be aware of eye fatigue
