Medical School Residency Fellowship Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Meredith Remmer Klifto, MD<\/strong>, is a native of Oakdale, New York. She graduated from The New York University School of Medicine in 2013 and completed her ophthalmology residency at NYU. While a medical student, she volunteered at the NYC Free Clinic and the Harm Reduction Alliance, both at NYU.<\/p>\n Dr. Klifto completed her fellowship in glaucoma at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2019. Her portfolio includes numerous publications, abstracts and presentations on glaucoma and other ocular conditions. Her clinical interests include glaucoma treatment by medical, laser and surgical means including trabeculectomy, tube shunt and minimally-invasive surgery. Dr. Klifto also specializes in treating cataracts and ocular trauma. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Phi Beta Kappa.<\/p>\n In addition to her clinical and research accomplishments, Dr. Klifto is deeply committed to medical education. She serves as a Foundation Phase Academic Coach at UNC School of Medicine, where she provides individualized academic coaching support to medical students, with a focus on learning strategies, test taking and wellness. Dr. Klifto is a passionate mentor and a key contributor to UNC\u2019s Ophthalmology Residency and Glaucoma Fellowship programs, where she trains the next generation of ophthalmologists both in clinic and in surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n Dr. Klifto enjoys snow skiing, golf, boating and running. In college, she was a member of the NCAA Division I Crew Team at Colgate University and was a member of the women\u2019s soccer team at Manchester University in Manchester, England, in 2007. Dr. Klifto lives locally and enjoys time with her husband, an orthopedic hand surgeon and their three daughters.<\/p>\n
