\nKeirnan Willett, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and a board-certified ophthalmologist.<\/p>\n

Dr. Willett received his bachelor\u2019s degree in biochemistry from Bowdoin College (Brunswick, ME) and his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA). Dr. Willett completed an internal medicine internship at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as well as a condensed fellowship in uveitis and ocular inflammation. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Willett joined the ophthalmology faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.<\/p>\n

Dr. Willett\u2019s expertise is medical and surgical treatment of retinal diseases including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, vascular occlusions, retinal detachment and inherited retinal diseases. He also specializes in inflammatory conditions of the eye including anterior and posterior uveitis due to autoimmunity and infection. He has a background in research and was a previously a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellow. He has authored numerous research papers on both vision science and ophthalmology. Related to his interests in international medicine and development of vison healthcare systems, Dr. Willett he has traveled to Ghana, Columbia, and Botswana.<\/p>\n
