Dr. Szatmary\u2019s training background is in ophthalmology in Hungary and neurology in the US. She completed her Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, GA. Prior to joining UNC Ophthalmology, Dr. Szatmary\u2019s cross-disciplinary expertise applied to a range of physician roles in neuro-ophthalmology, neurology, and neuroimaging. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Szatmary continues to hold an appointment at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology as an Affiliate Professor of Ophthalmology. She is also an ongoing Consultant Neuro-Ophthalmologist for her alma mater — Semmelweis Medical University in Budapest, Hungary.\u00a0 At the Hattiesburg Clinic Department of Neurology (Hattiesburg, MS), she served as Director of Neuro-Ophthalmology and as Neuroimaging Fellowship Director. Dr. Szatmary also served as Director of Stroke Services at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Szatmary\u2019s wealth of cross-disciplinary experience includes direct teaching and conference presentations in Ophthalmology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology and Neuro-Ophthalmology. She is widely published in neurology and neuro-ophthalmology, has served in a range of leadership capacities in neuro-ophthalmology and neuroimaging organizations, and has held multiple editorial positions for peer-reviewed neurology and neuro-ophthalmology publications.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from her professional activities, Dr. Gabriella Szatmary enjoys traveling and various sport activities. She loves to create and nurture bonsai, an activity that ties in with her other passion of meditation. She is a certified Vajrayana teacher.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
