\nUNC Department of Ophthalmology\u2019s one-year Ocular Surface and Cornea Research Fellowship<\/b>\u00a0program focuses on conducting cutting-edge clinical research on corneal diseases, ocular surface disorders, and advanced surgical techniques. Participants also explore artificial intelligence-driven diagnostics and imaging methods for corneal and ocular surface diseases, gaining hands-on experience in research methodologies, manuscript preparation, and presenting findings at conferences.<\/p>\n

As part of this international research team, fellows will lead one research project as their primary focus. Projects can include developing ocular surface registries to track long-term outcomes of innovative treatments and surgeries. Under the mentorship of Dr. Mohammad Soleimani<\/b>, a nationally and internationally recognized leader in ocular surface disease and complex cornea-anterior segment surgery, fellows will engage in transformative work at the forefront of corneal science. Fellows will also engage in clinical data analysis, database reviews, and active participation in patient recruitment and interactions within clinical settings.<\/p>\n

Key components of this one-year, trainee-tailored research fellowship include structured mentorship, clinic access and opportunities to publish in high-impact journals. Fellows will also have the chance to participate in clinic and operating room activities, with access to Epic@UNC for integrated patient care and research.<\/p>\n

Education and collaboration are central to the program. Fellows, residents, and medical students will benefit from workshops, webinars, and journal clubs focused on advancing knowledge and skills in corneal research. Additionally, the program will host an annual Cornea Research Day facilitated by the UNC Ophthalmology, showcasing ongoing projects and highlighting advancements in corneal and ocular surface science and innovation.<\/p>\n
