UNC Ophthalmology’s optometry division offers a full range of contact lens services, from evaluating first-time wearers for routine fittings, to complex contact lens management of post-surgical conditions (eg, corneal transplant) and complex refractive and binocular vision problems.\u00a0 Our two board-certified optometrists conduct comprehensive evaluations that screen for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, colored lenses, bifocals, and specialty medical fits for conditions such as keratoconus, corneal transplants, and corneal trauma.<\/p>\n

Michael Mendsen, OD<\/a>, is an American Board of Optometry board-certified optometrist who specializes in contact lens evaluations and fittings, as well as screening for, diagnosing and treating a range of ocular conditions related to comprehensive eye care. Dr. Mendsen’s expertise extends to management of complex refractive and binocular vision problems, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, colored lenses, bifocals, and specialty medical fits for conditions such as keratoconus, corneal transplants, and corneal trauma.<\/p>\n

Kyra Dorgeloh, OD, FAAO<\/a>, specializes in comprehensive eye care for adult and pediatric patients, including diagnosis and medical management of common eye diseases such as glaucoma, dry eye disease, and macular degeneration. For pediatric patients, her expertise extends to diagnosis and management of amblyopia, among other conditions.<\/p>\n

Patients who have been examined at UNC Ophthalmology can order contact lenses using the following website:<\/p>\n

The contact lens prescription is considered expired if the last eye exam at the UNC Kittner Eye Center was greater than one year ago.
