{"id":2498,"date":"2008-06-18T14:40:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-18T18:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/ophth\/forphysicians\/research-and-clinical-trials\/clinical-trials\/"},"modified":"2024-06-24T12:04:49","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T16:04:49","slug":"clinical-trials","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/ophth\/research\/clinical-research\/clinical-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"Ongoing Clinical Trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"OutlineElement Ltr SCXW194764812\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #6ea4db\"><strong>Active Recruitment<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #6ea4db\"><strong>Cornea Clinical Trials<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Zoster Burden of Eye Disease\/GSK (PI: Gower)<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is an observational, public health study in partnership with Rutgers University for patients with new or recurring herpes zoster.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #6ea4db\"><strong>Pediatric Clinical Trials<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Idiopathic Bilateral Cataracts\/ Retrophin CTX Study (PI: Whitfield)<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is a study looking at the relationship between idiopathic bilateral cataracts and the diagnosis of CTX.\u00a0 Patients will be identified via chart review (or referral), and will have some labs done to test for the presence of CTX.\u00a0 Study consists of one visit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ATS20: Binocular Dig Rush Game Treatment for Amblyopia<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is a study for children ages 4 to 7 with amblyopia.\u00a0 Subjects will be randomly assigned to either observation or to play a computer game 1 hour per day for at least 5 days a week.\u00a0 The study will last for 16 weeks.\u00a0 Those assigned to observation will have the option to switch to the computer game group after 8 weeks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ATS22: Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) (PI: Whitfield) \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pediatric Myopia\/Sydnexis STAAR Study (PI: Whitfield)<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is a 4-year study testing low dose atropine to prevent progression of pediatric myopia.\u00a0 Patients must be between the ages of 3 and 14, and meet certain vision criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"OutlineElement Ltr SCXW194764812\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #6ea4db\"><strong>Studies In Progress<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\">** No Longer Enrolling **<\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #6ea4db\"><strong>Retina Clinical Trials<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCR) &#8211; PI: Ulrich<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><\/strong><strong><\/strong><strong>DRCR AA<br \/>\nPeripheral DR Lesions on Ultrawide-field Fundus Images and Risk of Diabetic Retinopathy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>DRCR AF<br \/>\nA Randomized Trial Evaluating Fenofibrate for Prevention of Diabetic Retinopathy Worsening<\/strong><br \/>\nAn observational study in partnership with Rutgers University for Herpes Zoster &#8212;
