 <\/p>\n

In mid-June, UNC Ophthalmology hosted a two-day celebration of scholarly achievement and residency and fellowship program completion. Drs.<\/strong> Sinthu Ranjan<\/strong>, Mohammad Soleimani<\/strong> and Gabriella Szatmary<\/strong> helped to moderate the annual Resident Research Day<\/strong> on Friday, June 13th. Graduating resident (PGY4) Patrick Le, MD<\/strong>, was honored with the department’s annual Resident Research Award for best research project.

\nAt the department’s Saturday evening annual banquet, UNC Ophthalmology’s graduating residents and fellows were recognized for completing their programs and moving onto fellowship training and private practice. Additional honors were awarded for scholarly, clinical and teaching excellence, including:<\/p>\n

\nSurgical Excellence Award<\/strong>: Luke Ford, MD

A light-hearted highlight of the evening included a “Superhero” <\/strong>naming presentation led by Residency Program Director Dr. Alice Zhang<\/strong> that aligned each graduating senior with the impressive “powers” and talents they demonstrated over the course of residency. Dr. Zhang noted:<\/p>\n

“Congratulations to our phenomenal senior ophthalmology residents on their graduation! Each of you brought your own unique superpowers to the program, and it\u2019s been a privilege to watch you grow into the ophthalmologists (and heroes) you are today.”<\/p>\n
