UNC Department of Ophthalmology is pleased to recognize Professor of Ophthalmology Mohammad Soleimani, MD, FICO<\/strong><\/span>, has been named among the Top 1% Ophthalmology Research Physicians<\/strong><\/a> in the United States (2025)<\/span>\u00a0by\u00a0Avant-Garde Health\u2019s Healthcare Research All-Stars<\/em> program.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In addition to this national distinction, Dr. Soleimani was recently\u00a0awarded a Cornea Society Research Grant<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0from the\u00a0Cornea Research Foundation of America<\/span>\u00a0for his pioneering work utilizing\u00a0Virtual Reality (VR) in ophthalmology training and surgical education<\/span>. This innovative project — entitled, Reality Simulation for Training in Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK): A Pilot Study —<\/em> aims to develop immersive, simulation-based tools to enhance surgical skill acquisition, improve patient safety, and modernize ophthalmic education.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Avant-Garde Health Healthcare Research All-Stars<\/em>\u00a0program identifies physicians whose research impact places them in the nation\u2019s top percentile, based on publication record, citation influence, and sustained scholarly contribution. The\u00a0Cornea Research Foundation of America<\/em>\u00a0grant recognizes projects that significantly advance the understanding and practice of corneal and external disease management.<\/p>\n

Dr. Soleimani\u2019s recognition and grant reflect his continued leadership in advancing ophthalmic science, medical education, and translational innovation.
