DESCRIPTION:Join us for the fall OrthoRaMS Seminar series featuring Avinash Chandran\, PhD presenting “Injury and Life Course Health in Women: Integrated Perspectives from Injury Epidemiology and Aging-focused Observational Research” on November 13\, 2025 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM on Zoom. \nA substantial faction of girls and young women in the United\nStates engage in sports\, which\, while offering numerous benefits\,\nalso increases their risk of sustaining injuries. Existing research\nindicates that female athletes often experience a higher burden\nof injury as compared with their male counterparts. Emerging\nevidence indicates that physical activities and injuries experi-\nenced during early life can have significant and enduring effects\non women’s health as they age. Understanding the relationships\nbetween early-life activities\, injuries\, and subsequent health out-\ncomes is imperative for elucidating the etiologies of various\npathologies and developing effective strategies to prevent or\ndelay onset of chronic disease and morbidity during aging. This\ntalk serves as an introductory guide to the epidemiology of injury\nin female athlete populations and explores how early-life activity\nbehaviors and injuries can enhance our understanding of\nlater-life health outcomes in women. \n  \nAbout Dr. Chandran: \nDr. Avinash Chandran is the Chief Science Officer and Managing\nDirector of the NCAA Injury Surveillance Program at the Datalys\nCenter for Sports Injury Research and Prevention\, where he leads\ninitiatives to monitor and analyze injury patterns in collegiate\nathletics. His expertise spans injury epidemiology\, public health\nsurveillance\, and longitudinal study design. Supported by funding\nfrom domestic and international government agencies\, private\nindustry\, and nonprofit organizations\, Dr. Chandran’s research\nprogram focuses on the lifelong health impacts of activity-related\ninjuries. Dr. Chandran earned his MS and PhD in Epidemiology at\nthe George Washington University\, following undergraduate stud-\nies in Public Health at the University of Maryland\, College Park. Dr.\nChandran completed postdoctoral training at the University of\nNorth Carolina at Chapel Hill\, where he also currently holds an\nadjunct faculty position in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. \n  \nSee the flier for more details\, including the Zoom information: \nChandran_OrthoRaMS_flyer
