Meet the Sports Medicine Fellowship Faculty

UNC Faculty

Alex Creighton, MD, (Program Director) is the Yeargan Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedics at UNC Orthopaedics. A graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Creighton completed his residency at University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC and his fellowship in sports medicine at RUSH Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. His clinical interests include sports medicine and surgery of the shoulder, knee, and elbow. Read his Faculty Profile here.
Ganesh Kamath, MD,’s clinical interests include sports medicine and soft tissue trauma of the shoulder and knee. Dr. Kamath is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine where he also completed his residency. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Utah and currently holds an appointment as Associate Professor with UNC Orthopaedics. Read his Faculty Profile here.
Jeff Spang, MD, is a graduate of the Wake Forest School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship at Temple University, his orthopaedic residency at UNC, a sports medicine fellowship at University of Connecticut Sports Medicine Program, and a research fellowship in Sports Medicine at Technical University Munich. His clinical interests include sports medicine and soft tissue trauma of the shoulder and knee. He currently holds an appointment as Associate Professor in the UNC Department of Orthopaedics and is a member of the North Carolina State Game-Changing Research Incentive Program (GRIP), a collaborative research group based at NCSU and UNC. ROC Faculty:

Edwin Cadet, MD Edwin Cadet, MD, (ROC Site Director) is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Shoulder and Sports Medicine. He served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and an Assistant Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. While at Columbia, Dr. Cadet was an attending surgeon on the prestigious and world-renowned Shoulder Service, whom many around the world consider the “birthplace of modern shoulder surgery”. While on the Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine Service at Columbia University, Dr. Cadet also served as the Director of Hip Arthroscopy, was head team physician for the seventeen varsity team sports at the City College of New York, and two regional high schools, and was an integral part of training medical students, orthopaedic residents and fellows. Joseph Barker, MD, is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in Sports Medicine and is a team physician for the Carolina Hurricanes, NC State University, and Broughton High School. His areas of expertise include sports medicine, shoulder, hip and knee arthroscopy, and cartilage restoration.  Read his full biography here.
Matthew Boes, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with specialty certification in sports medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He currently serves as a Team Physician for North Carolina State University’s football and baseball team. His areas of expertise include sports medicine; arthroscopy; and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow and knee.  Read his full biography here.
Hadley Callaway, MD, specializes in shoulder, knee & arthroscopic surgery.  Trained at Harvard and HSS, the #1 hospital in America for orthopedics as ranked by USNews. Head team physician for the USA Mens National Hockey Team (2005 and 2011 World Championships) and NHL Carolina Hurricanes (1998-2002). Assistant team physician for the NFL New York Giants (1993-94). President, North Carolina Medical Society 2008-09. Chairman, Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rex Healthcare and WakeMed Raleigh, 2004-06. Medical director of Raleigh Orthopaedic Surgery Center. David Dare, MD,  is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery. Dr. Dare specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, and shoulder replacements.  Read his full biography here.
William Isbell, MD William Isbell, MD, is a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. His areas of expertise include anthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee with an emphasis on advanced anthroscopic techniques. Read his full biography here.
Robert Wyker, MD Robert Wyker, MD, joined Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic in 1987. He specializes in total joint replacement, anthroscopy, shoulder problems and sports medicine. Drawing on his love of sports,he is the Head Team Orthopaedist for North Carolina State University’s athletic department, most particularly the men’s basketball program, and Millbrook High School’s football team throughout his career. He is board certified, a past president of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association, and a member of multiple orthopaedic societies. Read his full biography here.
