Several members of the current faculty at UNC Orthopaedics have a strong interest in international orthopaedic outreach and mission. Nicaragua, Haiti, and the Middle East are a few of the places where current UNC Orthopaedics faculty members have served in recent years.

Up to two week elective international rotations for residents are supported by the department, without counting as vacation time for residents. Residents may travel with UNC Faculty or seek out other opportunities with American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Board Certified orthopaedic surgeons.

Opportunities to serve closer to home also exist. A bimonthly volunteer orthopaedic clinic at the Durham Samaritan Health Clinic is staffed by Dr. Josh Tennant, with UNC Orthopaedic residents having the opportunity to participate on a volunteer basis.
