Basic Science<\/span><\/h2>\n

UNC-Chapel Hill is one of the leading funded research universities in the country, and through collaborations with leaders in musculoskeletal disciplines, the Department of Orthopaedics is able to bring cutting edge research to its patients, students and researchers.<\/p>\n

The department has strong research collaborations with UNC Rheumatology and the Thurston Arthritis Center; UNC Exercise and Sports Science; UNC Division of Physical Therapy and the Joint Biomedical Engineering Departments of UNC and N.C. State, and UNC Department of Pediatrics. These collaborations give our physician scientists access to cutting edge, world leading researchers and enable us to engage in translational research that brings research from the lab to the real world.<\/p>\n

Clinical Research<\/span><\/h2>\n

UNC Orthopaedics faculty are actively engaged in clinical research to investigate new devices and drugs, to review clinical outcomes, and to assess how treatments impact health populations. This research directly engages our patient and gives them access to participate in new treatments or contribute to medical knowledge is a great benefit of being a patient at UNC.<\/p>\n

UNC has significant infrastructure to support clinical trials research and through our department resources and relationships we are able to effectively implement complex research trials, and to effectively recruit patients with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.<\/p>\n
