The treatment is currently being used to promote healing in partial thickness tendon tears, sprains \/ strains, joint pain and soft tissue injuries.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_552\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 189px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-552 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/ortho\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/406\/2017\/10\/berkoffweb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"179\" height=\"212\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">David Berkoff M.D.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Amniotic fluid is harvested from donor mothers during caesarian childbirth, without harm to mother or baby. The fluid is then tested and cryopreserved (frozen). The fluid is then injected into the injury site under ultrasound guidance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u201cWe are seeing great early outcomes in athletes, and this product shows promise in tissue repair for patients with osteo-arthritis\u201d, said Dr. Berkoff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">UNC is providing this treatment in the Tendon Treatment Program which opened early this year in North Chapel Hill.
