Nathan Montgomery, MD, PhD

Assistant Professor Director of Molecular Hematopathology Associate Director of Hematopathology and Molecular Pathology

Research Interests

  • Genomic features of hematologic malignancies
  • Diagnostic capacity building in resource-limited settings

Overview of Research and Clinical Work

Dr. Montgomery’s primary clinical and research interests center on the underlying biology and genetic features of hematolymphoid neoplasms. Much of his work centers on application of molecular and cytogenetic tools to clinical diagnostics. This work has included both retrospective studies to better understand test performance characteristics of existing molecular and cytogenetic assays, as well as new assay development focused on mutation and virus detection in tumor specimens. A separate research focus is based on diagnostic capacity building in sub-Saharan Africa, with an emphasis on HIV-associated lymphoma and other virally-driven lymphoproliferative disorders.
