Clinical Assistant Professor Director of Nephropathology

Research Interests

Dr. Moreno is originally from Caracas, Venezuela where she received her Medical Degree from the “Universidad Central de Venezuela”. She is a board-certified anatomic pathologist with AP/CP residency training and subspecialty in Renal Pathology, both obtained at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas. Subsequently, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow in Surgical Translational Pathology at the Department of Pathology at NCI/NIH as part of the NCI’s Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) fellowship program, in which she was involved in several research projects and clinical trials for prostate cancer and renal tumors to find biomarkers for targeting therapy. Subsequently, from 2016 through 2022, she worked at Arkana Laboratories, one of the largest and well-known renal pathology laboratories of the United States, where she was one of the consultant physicians for medical kidney biopsies as well as a research scientist involved in the validation of specific antibodies and scoring of cases for clinical trials. In 2023, she joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Clinical Assistant Professor and also as Director of the Division of Nephropathology.
