DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nWe are thrilled to announce official launch of the WHMC “Hot Topic” Seminar Series\, a monthly event curated by the WHMC Planning Commitee and supported by the Center for Women’s Health Research and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. These seminars are designed to bring together clinical and basic science faculty\, fellows\, residents\, postdocs\, staff\, graduate and medical students\, and undergraduates from across UNC\, with the intention of building awareness of the broad array of research in the UNC community that intersects with improving women’s health and providing an environment for forming new collaborations and training opportunities for trainees. \n  \nOur first seminar will be a joint keynote address by Dr. Wendy Brewster (Director of the Center for Women’s Health Research) and Dr. Russell Broaddus (Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) on October 11th\, 2021 from 12-1pm. This keynote seminar will mark the official start of the WHMC with a focus on the current state of women’s health research and the importance of inter- and multi-disciplinary collaborations in advancing research efforts in women’s health. The seminar will include a panel discussion with the speakers to encourage robust discussion with the audience. \n  \nThis will be a hybrid seminar\, with the opportunity to attend either in-person with limited capacity and spaced-out seating in Bondurant G100\, or virtually by Zoom (Zoom link here). DESCRIPTION:  \n\nCraig Fletcher\, DVM\, PhD\, Professor and Vice Chair in the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine\, Director of the Division of Comparative Medicine\, Assistant Dean of Animal Research Resources\, and Associate Vice Chancellor of Research\, will deliver this year’s Norma Berryhill Distinguished Lecture. \nPlease mark your calendars for the lecture\, which will be held virtually on Thursday\, November 18th. The event will open at 3:45 p.m. with the lecture scheduled to commence at 4:00 p.m. \nMore details are available here. We hope you’ll make plans to join this exciting event. \n\nAbout the Berryhill Lecture: \nThe Norma Berryhill Distinguished Lecture began in 1985. Established to honor the medical school’s “most able scientists and scholars\,” the lectureship is named after the late Norma Berryhill\, whose late husband\, Dr. Walter Reece Berryhill\, was dean of the school from 1941 to 1964. Along with her husband\, she is considered the co-founder of UNC’s four-year School of Medicine. While honoring an eminent member of the School of Medicine faculty\, the Norma Berryhill Distinguished Lecture series serves as an occasion to welcome new faculty members in an academic convocation and to further the sense of community created and nurtured by Mrs. Berryhill.
