DPLM Faculty Profiles — Dr. Shipley
Steven T. Shipley, DVM, DACLAM
Associate Director of Veterinary Services,
My research has focused in three primary areas—composite tissue transplantation, infectious disease research, and control algorithms for automated critical care systems. As a member of the Division of Comparative Medicine and a Laboratory Animal Veterinarian, I am very interested in health problems that affect both humans and animals. An excellent area to combine these interests is in the area of infectious disease, since many diseases affect both people and animals. In addition to this work a longstanding collaboration in the transplantation of composite tissue and the modulation of the immune response to this tissue has been both challenging and exciting. My recent collaboration with engineering colleagues to help develop automated critical care systems using swine models has also been very stimulating. I look forward to continuing these areas of study and taking advantage of whatever additional research opportunities present themselves in the future.
