She graduated summa cumme laude with Honors from William Peace University in Raleigh, NC, with a Bachelor\u2019s of Science in Biology in 2018. She worked as a research technician and lab manager for Teresa Tarrant, M.D., at Duke University School of Medicine for three years where she investigated the role of GRK3 in bone disease and collaborated with a lab at UNC Chapel Hill to pilot a novel drug delivery system using red blood cells as carriers for photo-sensitive therapeutics. Emily accepted a position at UNC Chapel Hill as a PhD student in the Fall of 2021 and joined the lab of Jessica Bowser, PhD, in 2022. Emily\u2019s work in Dr. Bowser\u2019s lab aims to understand non-canonical roles of CD73 in the context of cancer and epithelial regeneration. Emily\u2019s work was funded by a T32 fellowship in 2022 as part of the Program in Translational Medicine. In her spare time, Emily enjoys creating both traditional and digital art, and spends time with friends, family, and her dog, Mocha.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Emily was born in England and lived in Beijing, China, and Singapore as a child before moving to the Triangle area.
