He completed his undergraduate studies at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, where he majored in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, he spent 2 years at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA, studying stress signaling and therapeutic responses in pancreatic cancer.
