Surgery Grand Rounds: Anne Mosenthal, MD

Dr. Anne Mosenthal (bio below) will be presenting “Palliative Care in Trauma: Surgery and the Ethic of Care” during Surgery/Ethics Grand Rounds March 27th from 7:15am-8:15am in Old Clinic 4th floor auditorium.

 

Bio: Dr. Anne Mosenthal is the Benjamin F. Rush, Jr. Endowed Chair, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She holds three board certifications in Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Surgery of
Trauma (AAST) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She holds memberships in numerous other medical and surgical societies.

Over the last 25 years, Dr. Mosenthal has been a pioneer in the effort to integrate palliative care into the care of surgical and trauma patients. Her innovative work has led to the development of the new interdisciplinary field of Surgical Palliative Care as a subspecialty of surgery, with board certification. Nationally and Internationally recognized as one of the leaders in the field, she is the founding director of the first Division of Palliative Care in Surgery in the nation. Dr. Mosenthal is Chair of the ACS Committee on Surgical Palliative Care, and a member of the advisory boards of ?Improving Palliative Care in ICU Project? of the Center to Advance Palliative Care, Education of Physicians in End of Life Care (EPEC-Surgery), and past member of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Board Exam Committee.

Her national leadership includes serving as Governor of the ACS, Executive Council of the Society of Surgical Chairs (SSC) and is the founding Chair of their Women’s Committee
