If you have any questions about the application process after reading the information below, please contact the program&#8217;s fellowship coordinator, <a href=\"mailto:angela_williamson@med.unc.edu\">Angela Williamson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>To Apply<\/h4>\n<p>You must be board-certified or board-eligible in one of the palliative medicine sponsoring specialties to join our fellowship program. Our three available adult positions and one pediatric position for the class matriculating in July 2025 will be filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP, The \u201cMatch\u201d). We begin to receive and process applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) starting July 16, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>To begin your application, please follow the ERAS Fellowships Documents Office instructions found here. Please be sure to register with both ERAS and NRMP in order to be eligible for the Match. You can register with NRMP by going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrmp.org\/\">NRMP website<\/a>. Please note you will need to use your AAMC ID from your ERAS application to register for the NRMP.<\/p>\n<h4>Timeline<\/h4>\n<p>ERAS applications open July 16 for entry the following July (e.g., July 2025 and later applications are for the July 2026 program). Applications are preferred by July 31, 2025. Virtual interviews will be held on 8\/27, 9\/3, 9\/10, 9\/17, 10\/1, 10\/15, and 10\/22. We will offer a virtual happy hour with current fellows to those who have been offered an interview. Match results will be released on December 3, 2025. We recommend that you request letters of recommendations early in the process as these may sometimes take weeks to obtain.<\/p>\n<h4>Documentation<\/h4>\n<p>Our program requires the following documentation to complete your application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Curriculum vitae<\/li>\n<li>3 letters of recommendation. Applicants who have recently completed residency training should request letters from faculty members in their specialty area who are familiar with their work. One of the letters must be the Residency\/Fellowship Program Director. Applicants with medical practice experience should provide letters of reference from physicians in their practice community who are familiar with their skills.<\/li>\n<li>Personal statement<\/li>\n<li>Medical school transcripts<\/li>\n<li>Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)<\/li>\n<li>Scores from USMLE Step 1, 2 and 3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/media\/9726\/download\">View the complete ERAS application checklist<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uncmedicalcenter.org\/uncmc\/professional-education-and-services\/office-of-graduate-medical-education\/\">Visit the UNC Office of Graduate Medical Education site<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Signaling<\/h4>\n<p>Signals will be a part of the hospice and palliative medicine fellowship application process for the first time in 2025. Our program will evaluate signaling as a part of our first review of applications to help determine which applicants will receive an interview. We will not use signaling to determine our rank list. While signals can be a distinguishing feature in our initial review process, signals are not required to receive an interview as we holistically review every application that we receive.
