Ilona Jaspers, PhD

The International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) Member Society delegates have elected Dr. Ilona Jaspers to the position of Vice-President for a 3-year term (2022-2025). Ilona Jaspers, PhD is a Professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology & Immunology, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, and the Gillings School of Global Public Health. Dr. Jaspers is a leader across the UNC Health campus as the Director of the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology (CEMALB), the Director for the Curriculum in Toxicology, and the Associate Director of Scientific Development for the Children’s Research Institute. In her new role as IUTOX Vice President, Dr. Jaspers is a member of the Executive Committee and Chair of the organization’s Membership Committee.

IUTOX is the voice of toxicology on the global stage; the organization seeks to increase the knowledge base of toxicological issues facing humankind and to extend this knowledge to developing societies and nations. Founded in 1980, IUTOX now has 63 affiliated societies representing all six continents and a membership of over 25,000 toxicologists from industry, academia, and government: offering a diverse and challenging perspective on every issue and development relating to the profession.

The IUTOX mission is to improve human health through the science and practice of toxicology world-wide. IUTOX achieves its vision by fostering international scientific cooperation for the global acquisition and utilization of knowledge in toxicology for improvement of the health of humans and their environment.
