The UNC Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology was well represented at the North Carolina Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Society (NCAAIS) Annual Meeting, held May 16–17, 2026 in Durham, NC.
First-year fellow Hunter Smith, MD, MPH presented his research, “Patient Perceptions Regarding Omalizumab for Food Allergy Treatment.” His work highlights patient perspectives on omalizumab, a newly approved biologic therapy that is transforming the management of IgE-mediated food allergy.

UNC faculty also played key roles in the scientific program. David Peden, MD, MS delivered a presentation on the impact of climate change on allergic disease, and Edwin H. Kim, MD, MS presented on food allergies, including emerging therapies and clinical advances.
The NCAAIS Annual Meeting brings together clinicians, researchers, and trainees across North Carolina to share advances in allergy and immunology and to promote collaboration in improving patient care.
