Opportunities
During the first-year fellows spend time finding research mentors and developing research questions. This is facilitated through two weeks of dedicated time without clinical responsibilities.
For scholarly activity, fellows can work with internationally recognized investigators within the division and/or pursue collaborations with mentors from across the campus, including UNC’s top-rated Gillings School of Global Public Health, Eshelman School of Pharmacy, or Graduate School. Fellows have the opportunity to apply for research support through the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center or NIH-funded T32 training grants in a variety of disciplines, including hematology, clinical pharmacology, immunotherapy, cancer control, cell biology, and health disparities.
Interested fellows can receive tuition assistance to pursue graduate degrees and certificates from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
In their second year, fellows pursue their scholarly activities, refine their research questions, learn research methodology, and gather data.
During the third year, fellows prepare for the next stage of their careers: completing research projects, preparing manuscripts, interviewing for faculty positions or secondary training, and mastering clinical skills.
